Prom.  It’s an American tradition, and one that just shouts “4th Grade”!

I know what you’re thinking: “But Prom is a high school thing!”  Yes, I thought that, too.  But lately, I’ve been hearing about 8th Grade Proms.  Yep.  8th grade.

Now, if parents are sending their 8th graders off to prom, surely there must be some 7th grade proms as well.  So I decided to search the internet for 7th grade proms, and guess what I found?  A plethora of websites, full of photos of the tiny little couples, boutonnieres and corsages brightly pinned to itty bitty tuxes and gowns.

But,  you’re never too young for prom, right?   6th grade?  5th?  Yes, there are 5th grade proms on the internet.  (I believe, if I’m not mistaken, that the proper attire to be worn to a 5th grade prom would include Spiderman boxers for the gentlemen and anything Bratz for the ladies.)

Maybe it’s a good thing.  I mean, we all hear the complaining that children today are immature, irresponsible, and, well, childish.  Aren’t we always telling them to “grow up”?  What better way to grow up fast than to attend prom at age 10?  It’s high time the little darlins learn how much to tip a limo driver.

These "proms" are all so unnecessary. The local 8th grade prom where I
live was supposed to be just a dance, but the kids asking dates and so me went
to dinner before and parties after. Some even rented limos. What's left for
high school :? :
